This is my final design project for my COGS187a Usability and Information Architecture class. The purpose of this project is to redesign a music app with a prototype like invision or azure. We had to create an information architecture wireframe for mobile platforms that supports music streaming.
We first had to create a list of questions for interviews. I had to get info on what people liked and disliked about music apps. What they did on them and how they felt on each part of each page in the app. For this redesign we focused on three aspects of the music app. Create, manage, and sorting playlists. Our concern is really with the way you support browsing for music when choosing what to include in playlists, and the tasks you think need to be supported to use playlists and manage them (e.g. clean them up, delete, update, organize them …).
Next I did a competitive analysis on different music apps (Apple, Spotify, Amazon, Pandora). Analyzing a certain part of one music app and compare it to the same part/function on another music app and see which one is better. I did this using heuristic evaluations and focused on the 3 main parts of create, manage, and sorting playlists.
With the data we collected we then worked together to sketch out the layout of our wireframes. This part included alot of descision making and took a alot of time to decide what we wanted because we each had a distinct music app we really liked and that influenced how we wanted our redesign to look like.
We would create our sketch designs online with Sketch and then upload it to Invision to prototype them there. This was a pretty cool prototype and everything is a lot more real here. Compared to another redesign project I did in this class with Balsamiq, this one is a lot better and creates a more high resolution wireframe.
